EaP security policy workshop held in Minsk

MINSK, 14 November (BelTA) – Belarus' Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Kravchenko has delivered a speech at the EaP security policy workshop “Security options of the EU's Eastern partners: Is there a role for neutrality?” organized by the Minsk Dialogue Track-II Initiative under the auspices of the Austrian Presidency of the EU Council, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Oleg Kravchenko analyzed some stages of formation, evolution and transformation of the neutrality concept in Europe. He invited participants of the workshop to discuss a possibility to use elements of the classic concept of neutrality and its modern interpretation to ease tensions in the region based on the realistic assessment of the situation and existing alliances.

Representatives of Austria, Malta, Sweden, Switzerland and Finland spoke about prerequisites and conditions for the formation of neutrality in their countries. Taking part in the discussions were representatives of expert and academic circles of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Great Britain, Germany, Georgia, Ukraine, Finland, Switzerland, and Sweden, as well as members of the National Assembly of Belarus.
