Discussion about Belarus-EU partnership priorities till 2020 nearing completion

BRUSSELS, 24 November (BelTA) – Belarus is in the final stage of the discussion about priorities of partnership with the European Union till 2020, BelTA learned from Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei after the Eastern Partnership summit in Brussels, Belgium on 24 November.

“We have nearly finished discussing partnership priorities,” said the Belarusian minister of foreign affairs. In his words, it is a program to guide Belarus' cooperation with the European Union in the period till 2020. “I think we will finish work on the program soon and will be able to sign it. There are no difficulties,” noted Vladimir Makei.

As for €136 million the European Union intends to allocate to support some projects in Belarus, discussions are in progress. “We are interested in channeling the money into the projects that will benefit our state, our nation, and our society. I think that we have a great deal of spheres where these projects can be implemented,” specified the Belarusian minister of foreign affairs.

Vladimir Makei did not rule out that the money can be spent on projects to support and develop the civil society among other things. “We discuss all the projects with our partners. If we believe a project serves interests of the state, we will always back it up. We've implemented very many projects together with the European Union, other organizations and countries recently,” added Vladimir Makei.
