VITEBSK, 25 May (BelTA) – The Czech Republic and Belarus need to develop cooperation at the regional level, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to Belarus Milan Ekert told the media in Vitebsk on 24 May, BelTA has learned.
The diplomat attended the opening of the photo exhibition Belarusian Prague that is marking 500 years of the publication of Francysk Skaryna's Bible in the Czech capital.
The Ambassador said that he had a rich cultural and business program in Vitebsk. He met with the oblast authorities to discuss cooperation between Belarusian and Czech regions. “Minsk Oblast is a flagship in this cooperation. It has been actively cooperating with one of the Czech regions. The partners have signed a joint memorandum on cooperation and set goals. The regions exchange visits two times a year. At today's meeting in the oblast executive committee I have suggested choosing a Czech region for cooperation with Vitebsk Oblast. I am talking about cooperation between businessmen and in the areas of sport, education, and economy. We have a lot of opportunities for this,” Milan Ekert is confident. He stressed that regional and interpersonal ties create a robust basis for strengthening and developing cooperation between the states.
The diplomat said he loves art and likes visiting Vitebsk. “Today I have visited the Marc Chagall Museum. I am also interested in visiting Polotsk. I am planning to go there in September when Polotsk will be hosting the 500 years of the Belarusian book printing celebrations,” the Ambassador said.
Belarusian Prague, the exhibition of Minsk photographer Yulia Matskevich, has already been displayed in Minsk. After Vitebsk, the exposition will travel to other oblast centers of Belarus. Once it is back in Minsk, the exposition will beautify the walls of the Czech embassy.
