CSTO foreign ministers concerned over deteriorating information security

MINSK, 17 July (BelTA) – CSTO Ministers of Foreign Affairs voiced concern over the deteriorating situation in the field of information security, CSTO Secretary General Yuri Khachaturov told the media after the CSTO ministerial meeting in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

“The ministers adopted the statements expressing their concern over the situation in information security and also the consolidated opinion on the unbridled campaign of desecrating the memory of the Soviet soldiers-liberators who fell during World War Two,” Yuri Khachaturov said.

According to him, the ministers exchanged views on the current situation in the world and the CSTO objectives. A number of decisions was adopted to promote interaction in the international arena. The ministers also approved the list of the joint statements that the CSTO will make at various levels and in various organizations to communicate the CSTO consolidated position on a number of global issues dealt with by the UN General Assembly.

In particular, it is the fight against terrorism, ensuring the comprehensive stability, non-deployment of weapons in outer space and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. The CSTO member states will present their position regarding the issues related to Afghanistan and military activity in the territories adjacent to the CSTO area of responsibility, the joint measures to strengthen the defense capabilities of the CSTO member states, the approaches to resolving the ongoing conflicts. A declaration in connection with the 25th anniversary of the Collective Security Treaty and the 15th anniversary of the organization will be prepared by the session of the CSTO Collective Security Council,” Yuri Khachaturov said.

Furthermore, the participants in the meeting adopted the decisions concerning the CSTO efforts regarding the Afghanistan issues and the consultations on foreign policy, defense and security. The ministers also approved the documents which were reviewed in previous meetings of the CSTO Council of Ministers of Defense and the Committee of Secretaries of the Security Councils for further submission to the Collective Security Council.
