Croatia to assume CEI presidency in 2018

MINSK, 22 June (BelTA) - Croatia will assume the CEI presidency next year, Croatian Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Tomislav Lendic told the media following the plenary session of the CEI MFA meeting in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

“I would like to underline the importance of transport, energy security and interdependence in the CEI. These are the main issues on which we focus. We will build our CEI presidency around them and will continue the hard work,” Tomislav Lendic stressed.

He noted that the Central European Initiative could serve as a successful example of cooperation aimed at the development of the region. “We must use the full potential of this initiative to address such important issues as the migration crisis, the fight against terrorism and extremism. In political terms, we must ensure the stability and prosperity of our region,” he stated.

Tomislav Lendic thanked Belarus for the excellent organization of the CEI meeting. “We are happy to be here. I am grateful for your exceptional hospitality,” the deputy minister said.
