MINSK, 23 August (BelTA) – The contact group on Ukraine reached an agreement on “a school armistice” as from 25 August, BelTA learned from the OSCE's special representative in the trilateral contact group on Ukraine Martin Sajdik on 23 August.

With assistance of representatives of several districts of Donetsk Oblast and Lugansk Oblast and bearing in mind the support of the Normandy Four leaders, who held negotiations on 22 August, the trilateral contact group on Ukraine confirmed its complete adherence to a perpetual armistice as from 00:00 on 25 August due to the start of the academic year. The sides undertook to take all the necessary measures to enforce the armistice. The sides also vowed to ensure the OSCE's special monitoring mission to Ukraine will have safe and reliable access to the entire territory of the country for monitoring purposes. Martin Sajdik added that the subgroup on security had discussed details of implementing this decision.

Martin Sajdik also noted he personally approves the support of the Normandy Four leaders with fervor. “Our getting support from the Normandy Four leaders yesterday before we made our decision represents a brand new departure. Things like that have not happened up till now,” stressed the OSCE representative.
