Compliance with ceasefire remains main topic of talks on Ukraine

MINSK, 15 February (BelTA) – Continued compliance with ceasefire remains the centerpiece of the negotiations of the trilateral contact group, OSCE's special representative in the trilateral contact group on Ukraine Martin Sajdik told the media on 14 February, BelTA has learned.

According to the diplomat, “continued compliance with ceasefire and protection of civil population and infrastructure remained the main topic of today's discussions”.

“The trilateral contact group reiterated its commitment to a comprehensive, sustainable and unlimited ceasefire, and also the decisions on the withdrawal of forces and hardware, removal of heavy weapons, mine clearance and the ban on exercises using all types of weapons near the contact line,” the OSCE's special representative said.

The corresponding decisions were worked out in Minsk. Martin Sajdik stressed that three years have already passed since the signing of a set of measures to implement the Minsk agreements. “Despite certain difficulties, the Minsk process is working and bringing results,” he stressed.

Martin Sajdik expressed his opinion on the practicality of revising the Minsk agreements, taking into account the intention to deploy UN peacekeepers to Donbass. “I think that the Minsk agreements are strong and stable. When there is such a UN mission, its goal should be exactly the implementation of these agreements,” the diplomat stressed.
