MINSK, 10 October (BelTA) – The CIS countries would like to see Ukraine retain its membership in the Commonwealth of Independent States, Sergei Lebedev, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary, told the media on 10 October, BelTA has learned.

In his words, Ukraine was discussed at the meetings of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council and the CIS Heads of State Council in Dushanbe in September. “The absence of the Ukrainian delegation at the meetings was regretted. All believe that Ukraine benefits from its membership in the CIS, participation in the integration project and having good relations with the CIS countries. Of course, it is also in the interest of the CIS member states because we are neighbors and should cooperate,” Sergei Lebedev said.
