CIS heads of state's statement on family to be submitted to UN, OSCE

MINSK, 6 October (BelTA) – The text of the statement of the CIS heads of state on the support of the institution of the family, which is to be adopted at the forthcoming summit in Sochi, will be distributed among the United Nations, the OSCE and other international organizations, First Deputy Chairman of the Executive Committee – CIS Executive Secretary Viktor Guminsky said in an interview to BelTA.

In his words, one of the most important documents of the forthcoming summit will be the statement of the heads of state on the support of the institution of the family and traditional family values. The statement reads that the support of the institution of the family is one of the main priorities of the legal, social, economic and sociodemographic policy of the CIS member states. “The text of the statement will be distributed among the UN, OSCE and other international organizations,” Viktor Guminsky said.

“The family is a link between generations and a basis for ensuring a healthy and stable future. The document emphasizes the importance of working out efficient organizational, legal, economic, information and educational measures aimed at the development of favorable conditions to build a family, protect the health of the mother and the child, develop the institute of adoption, support young parents, and care about the senior generation,” Viktor Guminsky said.

The statement also points to the need for cooperation in addressing problems related to domestic violence, violation of the rights of the child, as well as on prevention and investigation of crimes against children, reduction of child mortality, and increasing the culture of education.

At the summit in Sochi, scheduled for 11 October, the CIS Heads of State Council plans to consider about 20 issues.
