CIS executive secretary calls for sharing migration data in real time for counterterrorism goals

MINSK, 9 October (BelTA) – Competent agencies should start sharing data about the migration situation in real time. Sergei Lebedev, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary, made the statement during the international high-level conference on preventing and fighting terrorism in the digital age in Minsk on 9 October, BelTA has learned.

Close attention is paid in the Commonwealth of Independent States to concerted measures with regard to people, who come back to the CIS states after taking part in actions of international terrorist organizations. “We need reliable information about the migration situation in specific regions and about the migration flow of people, who are potentially dangerous. It can be done by switching information sharing between the competent agencies to the real time mode,” believes Sergei Lebedev.

The CIS member states view fight against terrorism as one of the most important tasks in ensuring national security. “We are in favor of stepping up broad international cooperation in this area with the UN playing the central coordinating role on the basis of internationally recognized legal norms and principles,” said the official.
