CIS demonstrates its economic alignment with EAEU

MINSK, 6 April (BelTA) – Economic cooperation in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) has been recently intensifying and the CIS has been demonstrating its economic alignment with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Sergei Lebedev, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary, told the media after the meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council in Minsk on 6 April, BelTA has learned.

Sergei Lebedev described the negotiations of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council participants with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko as meaningful and productive, with a wide range of issues described, including the intensification of cooperation between the CIS member states and joint response to emerging challenges and threats.

The chairman of the CIS Executive Committee said that the CIS Foreign Ministers Council supported Turkmenistan's initiative to develop a medium-term program of interaction within the CIS and declare 2021 the Year of Architecture and Urban Development.

The CIS foreign ministers also discussed the forthcoming important meetings and events within the CIS, including the meetings of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly and the CIS Economic Council.

Sergei Lebedev stressed the importance of Minsk meeting, participants of which unanimously confirmed the intention to intensify contacts within the CIS. He thanked the leadership of Belarus, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for a high organizational level, noting that Minsk continues to be the CIS informal capital.
