CIS Defense Ministers Council to meet in Dushanbe on 12 October

MINSK, 4 October (BelTA) – The CIS Defense Ministers Council will hold a meeting in Dushanbe on 12 October, BelTA learned from the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

The agenda of the meeting includes more than 20 issues. A part of the issues will be considered during the speeches of speakers. The rest will be signed without discussion.

The representative of Tajikistan will report on the military-political situation at the CIS southern borders and its impact on the security situation in the Central Asian region. The participants of the meeting will discuss the use of satellite communication systems for military use, interaction with the International Army Games Association, cooperation in the field of engineering support for the armed forces through 2020, preparations to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. The meeting will also consider an action plan for the integrated air defense system for 2018.

The heads of defense ministries plan to sign without discussion the documents related to the joint computer command and staff exercise of the CIS joint air defense system "Regional Security 2018", and the Council of Defense Ministers action plan of for 2018.

Documents on interaction in the topographical sphere, exchange of information, archival documents and use of databases in respect to the military memorial work in the armed forces of the CIS member states, the development of cooperation in the field of physical training and sports, information support, and other documents will be signed at the meeting as well.

In addition, the CIS Defense Ministers will outline the provisional agenda, the date and venue for the next meeting, and consider a number of organizational issues.

Attending the meeting will be Chairman of the Executive Committee - CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev.

The CIS Defense Ministers Council was established in 1992. It consists of representatives of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. The council coordinates military cooperation, considers conceptual approaches to issues of the military policy and military development, and develops proposals for implementing efforts aimed at preventing armed conflicts. The council considers draft treaties and other documents on defense and military development, work out proposals on bringing legal acts closer in the area, and the management of the Collective Peacekeeping Forces in the CIS.
