Call to develop model laws in Union State

MOGILEV, 12 October (BelTA) – It makes sense to consider the possibility of developing model laws in the Union State, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich told BelTA.

According to the chairman of the Council of the Republic, model laws in the Union State may serve as a basis for the future national legal framework between the participating states.

Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia Valentina Matviyenko supported the initiative of her Belarusian counterpart. The similar practice is applied in the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly and it works very well. The CIS IPA has adopted more than 400 model laws so far. The absolute majority of them have been fully or partially implemented in the national legislations.

Valentina Matviyenko is convinced that the harmonization of the legislation in the Union State is of crucial importance. “It will promote successful development of integration processes in all the areas, in the whole range of issues of bilateral cooperation,” the speaker said.

She added that Russia and Belarus are developing digital economy, including at the legislative level. “It is important to harmonize these laws in the Union State in order to develop a unified digital information space for the people of Russia and Belarus,” Valentina Matviyenko said.
