Call for MPs to enable conditions to galvanize Belarus-Russia investment cooperation

MINSK, 11 May (BelTA) – Belarusian and Russian parliamentarians should enable conditions for galvanizing investment cooperation of the two countries. Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich put forward the proposal as he met with Alexander Ishchenko, Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of Russia's Rostov Oblast, on 11 May, BelTA has learned.

During the meeting Mikhail Myasnikovich suggested discussing prospects of stepping up investment activities. Investments are the future, he noted. The head of the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament believes that the two countries should establish more joint ventures so that Belarusian and Russian manufacturers would act as partners instead of competitors.

Mikhail Myasnikovich also spoke about prospects of R&D cooperation and cooperation in education. He said it is necessary to adjust the legislation in order to allow Belarusian scientists to participate in Russian R&D programs and vice versa. Mikhail Myasnikovich was convinced that the synergy effect from projects will only grow larger because of that.

While in Belarus the Rostov Oblast delegation held meaningful negotiations with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, members of the government and the lower chamber of the Belarusian parliament. Mikhail Myasnikovich stressed that on its part the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly will help implement the agreements reached at the high and top levels. “There is no doubt that we have good prospects ahead of us,” he stressed.

As a result of the meeting Mikhail Myasnikovich and Alexander Ishchenko signed a joint statement of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus and the Legislative Assembly of Russia's Rostov Oblast.
