British MPs see potential for stronger trade ties with Belarus

MINSK, 6 July (BelTA) – British parliamentarians see potential for stronger trade ties with Belarus, BelTA learned from the letter of thanks sent by the delegation of the British Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (BGIPU) to the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus after the delegation visited Belarus.

On behalf of the delegation John Whittingdale, BGIPU Vice Chairman, chairman of the UK group for cooperation with Belarus, thanked the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament for their time and for the astonishing itinerary. “My colleagues and I liked the visit very much. We returned home with a better understanding and new knowledge of Belarus,” noted the MP.

Meetings with representatives of the Council of the Republic and the central government had been informative and productive. They had given an opportunity for an open dialogue about the bilateral relations and a number of other matters. “We were inspired by the fact that everyone we've met was intent on enhancing relations between our countries. Besides, visits to various enterprises and the Hi-Tech Park demonstrated the potential for stronger trade ties while our appreciation of the culture and legacy of Belarus vividly showed considerable opportunities for tourism,” the letter reads.

British MPs intend to support new contacts. They hope that the level of exchange between the UK and Belarus will continue rising and hope for a meeting in Westminster in the near future.
