Benin MPs show interest in contacts with Belarus' National Assembly

MINSK, 17 October (BelTA) – The MPs of Benin are interested in developing contacts with the National Assembly of Belarus. The matter was discussed at a meeting between the Belarusian delegation and their counterparts from Benin on the sidelines of the 137th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in St Petersburg, BelTA learned from the press service of the House of Representatives.

Taking part in the meeting on Belarus' behalf was Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Boleslav Pirshtuk, Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs an National Security of the Council of the Republic Sergei Rakhmanov, and Deputy Chairperson of the House of Representatives' Standing Commission on Ecology, Nature Management and the Chernobyl Alla Naumchik. The Benin parliamentary delegation was led by Chairman of the National Assembly Adrien Houngbedji.

The MPs of Benin expressed their interest in establishing close bilateral relations with the National Assembly of Belarus and noted that the participation in the IPU events is an efficient means for achieving results.

Boleslav Pirshtuk supported the idea and emphasized the need of outlining the most important areas of inter-parliamentary cooperation. The vice speaker suggested considering the possibilities of setting up groups of friendship in the parliaments of the two countries and also exchanging visits at the parliamentary level.

Boleslav Pirshtuk also emphasized the need to attach closer attention to the cooperation on a wide range of issues. In his words, Belarus is interested in reliable partners. Together with Sergei Rakhmanov, the vice speaker updated the counterparts from Benin on the structure of the Belarusian economy. The sides exchanged opinions on possible areas of cooperation in the trade and economic sector, education, healthcare, science and technology.

The Belarusian MPs also held talk with the Vietnamese delegation. The parties expressed interest in the development of solid contacts using the capacity of international inter-parliamentary instruments. An important role of the legislative bodies of the two countries was noted in the achievement of the trade and economic parameters outlined earlier by the two heads of state. The participants of the meeting agreed that there are all necessary tools to increase the mutual trade, develop interregional cooperation and strengthen youth contacts.
