Belarusian MPs to attend autumn meeting of OSCE PA, IPU Assembly

MINSK, 26 September (BelTA) – Members of the Belarusian parliament will take part in the autumn meeting of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and the 137th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the press service of the lower chamber of the Belarusian parliament told BelTA.

The autumn meeting of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly will take place in Andorra la Vella, the Principality of Andorra on 3-5 October. The Belarusian delegation will be led by Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Boleslav Pirshtuk. The parliamentary conference Security in the OSCE Area: New Challenges, New Tasks will be the central event of the meeting. There are plans to discuss cybersecurity problems, climate change, and ways to assist education as a guarantee of stability and development.

A Belarusian delegation will take part in events of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, and the 137th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Saint Petersburg on 13-18 October.

The 137th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union is expected to attract a record high number of delegations — 152 national delegations, including the Belarusian one, have declared their intention to participate in the event. The assembly will have to decide on expanding the composition of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. A new chairperson of the Inter-Parliamentary Union will have to be elected for the next three-year term.
