Belarusian ambassador partakes in UNIDO discussion about women's role in society development

MINSK, 27 November (BelTA) – Ambassador of Belarus and the country's resident representative in international organizations in Vienna Alena Kupchyna took part in the plenary session of the 17th session of the General Conference of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), BelTA has learned. The session was dedicated to the role of women in the development of the society.

The Belarusian diplomat took part in the discussion as the president of the UNIDO General Conference. Key speakers included Malta President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca and UNIDO Director General Li Yong.

The ambassador talked about the main directions of development of the Belarusian economy, national interests in these matters. Close attention was drawn to the role of women in the development of various spheres of the society in Belarus. The ambassador remarked that there is no discrimination based on gender in Belarus. “Gender balance for me means equal opportunities, which automatically move women to the forefront,” said the ambassador.

Asked whether she has ever felt any harassment in the course of her diplomatic carrier, the ambassador recommended getting rid of stereotypes about Belarus as fast as possible. “I have never felt any discrimination based on gender,” the diplomat stressed. “Yes, we have isolated problems, for instance, the development of woman entrepreneurship and labor relations. But there are no ideal things in this world.”
