Belarus welcomes EU decision to lift most sanctions

MINSK, 15 February (BelTA) – The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes the decision of the European Union Council to lift most sanctions from Belarus, BelTA learned from Dmitry Mironchik, Head of the Information Office, Press Secretary of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Dmitry Mironchik was quoted as saying: “We welcome today's decision of the Foreign Affairs Council of the European Union to lift the bulk of the restrictive measures from Belarus and to step up cooperation with our country.”

The official went on saying that the decision represents an important step on the way towards full normalization of relations and opens up new opportunities for expanding versatile interaction between Belarus and the European Union in addition to advancing it to a brand new level.

“We are convinced that the decision meets interests of Belarus, the European Union, and the entire European region as a whole. The decision vividly testifies that dialogue is the most effective way of resolving differences. We hope that the decision will contribute to stronger regional stability and security. We are ready to make our own contribution to this process,” said the spokesman of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Dmitry Mironchik went on saying that Belarus is open to continuing the constructive dialogue with the European Union and its member states on all matters of mutual interest.
