MINSK, 27 April (BelTA) – Events on the ways to promote Ukraine settlement may be arranged as part of the 26th OSCE PA summer session, Vice Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Boleslav Pirshtuk told reporters, BelTA has learned.
“An interesting idea has been put forward to hold additional events on this issue, simultaneously with the main agenda. We are now discussing in detail how we can reinforce the substantive agenda of the session with this in mind. We would like to act not only as hospitable hosts but also leave a positive mark and get a concrete result,” he said.
“I am not yet ready to say what these events will be but we are working on this,” Boleslav Pirshtuk noted. He recalled that a few days ago in Copenhagen the Belarusian delegation participated in the meeting of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Bureau where this matter was also raised and received approval from the European partners.
The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly was established in Madrid, Spain in April 1991. It is comprised of 323 MPs from 57 countries. The annual summer session is the largest event on the OSCE PA calendar that brings together the leadership and officers of the OSCE PA, adopts declarations and resolutions.
Minsk will play host to the OSCE PA summer session on 5-9 July. The meeting will highlight mutual trust and cooperation for peace and wellbeing in the region. The event will bring together around 700 participants. The session is expected to be eventful. It will include meetings of the OSCE PA Standing Committee and the three General Committees of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly: on Political Affairs and Security; on Economic Affairs, Science, Technology and Environment; on Democracy, Human Rights and Humanitarian Questions.
