Belarus, Vatican discuss prospects for cooperation

MINSK, 4 October (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei met with Vatican's Substitute for General Affairs to the Secretary of State Giovanni Angelo Becciu on 4 October, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The visit of the high-ranking guest is timed to the official inauguration of a new building of the Apostolic Nunciature in Minsk and to the 25th anniversary of Belarus-Vatican diplomatic relations to be celebrated on 11 November.

The sides touched upon topical mattes and key avenues of further Belarus-Vatican cooperation and some aspects of the Catholic church's work in Belarus. Vladimir Makei and Giovanni Angelo Becciu exchanged opinions on the results of the recent Plenary Assembly of the Council of European Episcopal Conferences in Minsk, which gathered over 40 cardinals and bishops.
