Belarus, United Nations discuss cooperation in combating terrorism

MINSK, 7 December (BelTA) – Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Valentin Rybakov met with Jean-Paul Laborde, Executive Director of the Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC) of the United Nations Security Council, at the UN Headquarters in New York. The parties discussed prospects for strengthening cooperation in the fight against terrorism, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The parties considered promising areas of cooperation between Belarus and the United Nations in combating terrorism. They discussed the results of CTC's assessment of Belarus' compliance with thecounter-terrorism resolutions of the UN Security Council. Belarus was commended for the effort to implement the recommendations presented by the CTC,” the press service said.

Special attention was paid to the ways to step up cooperation between the United Nations and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). The parties agreed that it is necessary to organize more joint events and strengthen the ties between the Counter-Terrorism Committee and the CSTO Secretariat, and also between the United Nations and the CSTO in general.
