Belarus to attend 38th AIPA General Assembly

MINSK, 14 September (BelTA) – Deputy Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Dmitry Shevtsov is expected to take part in the events of the 38th AIPA General Assembly - ASEAN 2017 (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) on 14-20 September, BelTA has learned.

According to Dmitry Shevtsov, the main issues on the agenda of the General Asembly in Manila, the Philippines will be anti-terrorist efforts and the fight against drugs trafficking. The Belarusian MP is expected to present his report on the matter.

The Belarusian representative will also hold bilateral meetings aimed at strengthening Belarus' relations with a number of partner countries.

The Belarusian parliament got an observer status in the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly in 2011. Among the AIPA goals is to establish closer inter-parliamentary cooperation between the ASEAN member states, develop contacts and mutual understanding between their members and also other national, regional and international parliamentary organizations.
