Belarus-Spain commission on trade to hold first meeting in Minsk in 2017

MINSK, 7 August (BelTA) – The first meeting of the Belarus-Spain intergovernmental trade and economic commission will take place in Minsk this year. The issue was discussed at a meeting of Charge d'Affaires of Belarus to Spain Alexander Ivashkevich at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain, BelTA learned from the Belarusian embassy of Belarus in Spain.

Alexander Ivashkevich met with Deputy Heads of the Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pablo Deportes Bielsa and Ainhoa Fabrega to discuss the implementation of the agreements reached during the visit of Belarus' Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei to Spain on 13-15 June. “The meeting focused on the implementation of the provisions of the memorandum between the governments of Belarus and Spain on economic and industrial cooperation. The document envisages the establishment of a joint intergovernmental Belarus-Spain trade and economic commission. The parties stressed the importance of holding its first meeting this year. The representatives of the Spanish ministry suggested organizing it in Minsk,” the embassy said.

The diplomats confirmed the interest in further development of relations between the Justice Ministries of Belarus and Spain. It was noted that this will promote the signing of a memorandum of understanding. The diplomats also emphasized the importance of the Spanish visa center that was opened in Minsk on 14 July. The activity of the center will promote the intensification of contacts between the two countries. “The parties also considered the initiative to hold the Belarusian-Spanish ministerial consultations on consular matters and reached an agreement to develop the agenda for the planned consultations,” the Belarusian diplomatic mission added.
