Belarus' sincere desire for peace in Ukraine reaffirmed

MINSK, 16 November (BelTA) – Belarus sincerely wishes peace to be restored in Ukraine and is ready to do everything possible to make the wish come true, even before participants of the negotiation process are ready for it at times. Dmitry Mironchik, Head of the Information Office, Press Secretary of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made the statement on 16 November when asked to comment on the previous day's statements of some Ukrainian political and public figures in the wake of Belarus' willingness to send peacekeeping forces to Donbass, BelTA has learned.

The official said: “The idea to send peacekeeping forces to Donbass is being discussed now and fleshed out as draft resolutions of the UN Security Council. We talked about it even back in October 2014. We stay true to our words just like the Belarusian minister of foreign affairs confirmed it yesterday. As for the not totally adequate statements about Belarus, it is good that their authors are mainly fringe politicians or nonentities. Their ‘incriminating' revelations and ‘backstabbing' accusations are intended for the Ukrainian audience and represent just another attempt to attract attention.”

“But when such statements are followed by calls for setting up ‘serious sabotage and reconnaissance forces' and ‘staging diversions' in Belarus, they go beyond the realm of political publicity. Such statements warrant the attention of medics or law enforcement agencies. Better yet attention from both kinds,” continued Dmitry Mironchik. “We expect the Ukrainian side to give this instigation of acts of terrorism at least a political evaluation or, better yet, a legal evaluation”.
