Belarus-Russia Union's Military Doctrine to reflect current global geopolitical situation

MINSK, 28 February (BelTA) – The Military Doctrine of the Union State of Belarus and Russia will reflect the current geopolitical situation in the world. The statement was made by State Secretary of the Union State of Belarus and Russia Grigory Rapota after the 25th Minsk International Book Fair was opened on 28 February, BelTA has learned.

The official said: “I don't think there will be fundamental changes. Nevertheless, some changes will be introduced to reflect the current geopolitical situation in the world.”

Grigory Rapota remarked he had had no part in compiling the doctrine. “We just offer a venue and make sure that decisions our presidents make get implemented. The decision to update the doctrine has been made. It was done because the national doctrines get updated all the time,” he remarked.

The Belarusian and Russian defense ministries are taking care of the matter. The work is rather vigorous. The matter is discussed during meetings of representatives of the relevant agencies.

BelTA reported earlier that the Military Doctrine of the Union State of Belarus and Russia is supposed to be presented before the Union State Council of Ministers in H2 2018. The Military Doctrine reflects Belarus' and Russia's views on ways to take care of the military security of the Union State. The adoption of the revised document will bring the legal base in the area of military security into compliance with the present military and political situation.
