Belarus-Russia Union's Military Doctrine described as purely defensive

MINSK, 27 February (BelTA) – The Military Doctrine of the Union State of Belarus and Russia is purely defensive, BelTA learned from Frants Klintsevich, Deputy Chairman of the Security, Defense, and Crime Control Commission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia, member of the Defense and Security Committee of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation.

The development of the Military Doctrine was discussed by the commission on 27 February. The MP underlined that the document is purely defensive. No plans for deploying the armed forces of the Union State for offensive operations have ever been made. “Everything rests only on a defensive foundation,” said Frants Klintsevich.

The MP described military and technical cooperation in the Union State of Belarus and Russia as very effective. The two countries are connected by common projects for modernizing former Soviet aircraft, armored vehicles, and other spheres. “I believe we truly have very qualified, systemic, and effective cooperation in security in the Union State of Belarus and Russia, cooperation between the defense ministries, special services, and law enforcement agencies,” noted Frants Klintsevich. According to the source, the Union State of Belarus and Russia serves as a serious example in the post-Soviet space in this regard.

Progress in developing the Military Doctrine was discussed during the session of the Security, Defense, and Crime Control Commission on 27 February. Apart from that, participants of the session discussed ways to bring Belarusian and Russian laws in the area of national security closer to each other. The improvement of transport security was mentioned.
