Belarus-Russia union government officials expected to make reports in parliament

BREST, 18 June (BelTA) – Representatives of the government of the Union State of Belarus and Russia will be asked to make reports during sessions of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, BelTA learned from Vyacheslav Volodin, Speaker of the State Duma of Russia, during the 54th session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia in Brest on 18 June.

“It is necessary to improve the effectiveness of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. New forms and methods able to produce concrete solutions are called for. We've agreed we would like to see reports by representatives of the Union State government on our agenda. The reports should cover the matters the citizens of our countries are concerned with and require consideration within the framework of this format,” said the Russian MP. In his words, commissions of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia will compile the schedule for such reports.

Bringing Belarusian and Russian laws closer to each other with a view to enabling equal rights for citizens and commercial entities was at the heart of the agenda of the 54th session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. “A lot has been done in this regard since the Union State of Belarus and Russia was founded. Yet our commissions have detected a lot of gaps, inconsistencies, and unresolved issues primarily in the sphere of trade and economic relations. Not everything has been done yet as far as the coordinated industrial policy is concerned. It is necessary to work harder in the sphere of manufacturing cooperation ties between our enterprises. Everyone – both Russia and Belarus – will benefit from it. Jobs will be created, the budgets will be replenished, and salaries will be paid to our people,” noted Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko.

State Secretary of the Union State of Belarus and Russia Grigory Rapota took part in the session.

The next session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia is supposed to take place in a bordering region of Russia in late 2018. Pskov Oblast is one of the possible sites. The session will be dedicated to the compilation of the budget. Apart from that, the possibility of holding the sessions more frequently is under consideration. The sessions are held twice a year now. The speakers believe that Union State MPs will meet more frequently than that if the agenda demands it.
