Belarus plans to ratify visa-free travel agreement with Argentina

MINSK, 6 March (BelTA) – Belarusian MPs plan to ratify an intergovernmental agreement with Argentina on mutual visa-free trips for citizens, BelTA learned from the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus.

The agreement between the governments of Belarus and Argentina on mutual visa-free trips for citizens was signed in Minsk in October 2016. The document specifies that the citizens of the two states, holders of valid travel documents (passports), can enter, leave, transit and temporary stay on the territory of the other state without a visa during a period that does not exceed 90 calendar days (from the day of the first entry). Travelers are expected to observe the laws of the country of their visit.

According to the House of Representatives, the agreement will create necessary conditions to strengthen and develop ties, step up business contacts, add impetus to increasing the supplies of Belarusian products to the market of Argentina. Besides, Argentina is home to Latin America's biggest Belarusian diaspora which is about 2,000 people.

The two countries established diplomatic relations in 1992. In March 2000 Belarus opened its embassy in Argentina. In 2012 Argentina's Ambassador to Russia was accredited to Belarus on concurrency.

A working group was set up in the Belarusian parliament to develop cooperation with the Parliament of Argentina. The creation of the similar working group in the Parliament of Argentina is under consideration.

Argentina is one of Belarus' important partners in Latin America. The Belarus-Argentina joint commission on trade and economic cooperation first met in Buenos Aires in September 2015. In Argentina there are branches of Gomselmash and Belorusneft and also a representative office of Belatra Company.
