Belarus may join Ecuador earthquake relief efforts

MINSK, 6 May (BelTA) – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Ecuador Igor Poluyan met with Ecuadorian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility Fernando Yepez Lasso, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Igor Poluyan expressed his heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the Ecuadorian people in connection with the many deaths caused by the earthquake that hit the country on 16 April and was the greatest tragedy in the last 67 years. The parties exchanged views on the possible mechanisms of Belarus' participation in the efforts to restore housing and infrastructure in Manabi and Esmeraldas provinces that have suffered the most damage,” the press service said.

Igor Poluyan and Fernando Yepez Lasso also discussed current issues of bilateral cooperation in politics, trade, economy, science, technology, education, and other areas. Special attention was paid to matters related to the strengthening of the high-level interstate dialogue, preparations for the third session of the Belarus-Ecuador commission for trade and economic cooperation to be held in Minsk in 2016, and the activities of the Belarusian companies Belorusneft and Belzarubezhstroi in Ecuador.
