Belarus, Latvia to upgrade border infrastructure ahead of 2nd European Games, IIHF WC

MINSK, 10 October (BelTA) - Belarus and Latvia will upgrade the infrastructure on the joint border ahead of the 2nd European Games and the IIHF World Championship. This issue was discussed at a meeting between Belarus' Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Dapkiunas and Edgars Skuja, Acting Head of the Security Policy and International Organizations Directorate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, BelTA learned from the press service the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.

“In the context of the preparations for the 2019 European Games and the IIHF World Championship in Minsk and Riga in 2021, the parties highlighted the importance of improving operational interaction between the border and customs services of the two countries and taking coordinated joint steps to upgrade the infrastructure of the crossing points on the Belarusian-Latvian border,” the press service noted.

The diplomats discussed the prospects for bilateral cooperation between Belarus and Latvia in political and military-political areas and also exchanged opinions on regional and European security issues.

The parties hailed the progress in the development of political dialogue and ministerial and regional cooperation between the two states. The parties took note of regular consultations between the ministries on pan-European matters, confidence-building and security measures.
