Belarus, Latvia discuss cooperation within international organizations

MINSK, 11 February (BelTA) – Belarus and Latvia have discussed cooperation prospects and mutual support for each other's initiatives at international organizations, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Belarus Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Dapkiunas met with Head of the Directorate for Security Policy and International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia Edgars Skuja in the run-up to the fourth round of Belarus-Latvia annual ministerial consultations on international and regional security. The meeting was held at the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The parties shares views on the topical issues of the regional and European security, and discussed ways to expand Belarus-Latvia cooperation in politics and defense.

The diplomats welcomed progress in expanding bilateral contacts and good neighborly cooperation. They emphasized that it is important to maintain an ongoing and meaningful dialogue between the foreign ministries of the two countries with a view to strengthening trust between Belarus and Latvia and security in Europe.

Edgars Skuja thanked Belarus for helping Latvia to fight wildfires in the summer of 2018.
