Belarus keeps an eye on Ukraine's entry rules for foreigners

MINSK, 1 September (BelTA) – The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs keeps an eye on discussions and the decisions Ukraine makes on entry rules for foreigners. The statement was made by Dmitry Mironchik, Head of the Information Office, Press Secretary of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on 1 September when asked to comment on Ukraine's decision to introduce biometric control for arriving foreigners as from 1 January 2018 and the possible effect the new rules may have on Belarus citizens, BelTA has learned.

“We are tracking the discussion and the decisions the Ukrainian side makes with regard to arriving foreigners. Ukrainian partners have not yet told us anything officially. But we believe that the relevant information will be received in advance. Sharing such information is stipulated by the bilateral agreement on visa-free travels,” said the press secretary.

Dmitry Mironchik noted that for now judging from mass media reports Ukrainian government agencies are supposed to work out the relevant mechanisms within 2-3 months. “We are waiting for an official notification. If necessary, we will discuss the matters with the Ukrainian side in order to prevent citizens of the two countries from having problems with crossing the common border,” added Dmitry Mironchik.
