Belarus invites Indonesia to cooperate in agriculture, mining

MINSK, 17 September (BelTA) - Belarus invites Indonesia to cooperate in agriculture and mining, Vice Speaker of the House of Representatives Boleslav Pirshtuk said as he met wish the Indonesian delegation headed by Adang Sudrajat, Chairman of the Indonesia-Belarus Parliamentary Friendship Group, in Minsk on 17 September, BelTA has learned.

Among the promising areas of cooperation Boleslav Pirshtuk outlined agriculture, where Belarus has achieved significant successes, and also mining. “In terms of the manufacture of mining equipment we firmly hold the third place in the world. We have something to offer,” the vice speaker said.

The parties discussed investment cooperation. Belarus has created good conditions for investors, in particular, in the free economic zones, the Chinese-Belarusian industrial park Great Stone, Boleslav Pirshtuk noted.

Boleslav Pirshtuk said that the Chambers of Commerce of the two countries will organize a big business forum in Belarus in 2019. It will be co-located with a meeting of the bilateral intergovernmental commission. This will be a good opportunity for Indonesian businesses to learn more about Belarus and find an interesting segment of cooperation, he added.

The vice speaker welcomed the positive dynamics of trade but believes it is fairly modest. “We could increase it at least several times,” Boleslav Pirshtuk. He expressed confidence that Indonesian businesses would benefit from cooperation with Belaru,s given the opportunity to access the markets of the Eurasian Economic Union and the European Union.

Belarus considers Indonesia as an important partner, the cooperation with which provides springboard to the markets in the ASEAN region.

The parties also discussed the issues relating to the legal framework of bilateral relations and also military, technical and humanitarian cooperation.

The visit of the Indonesian parliamentary to Belarus will last till 20 September. The Indonesian MPs are also set to meet with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to visit the Minsk Wheeled Tractor Plant, BelAZ and MAZ automakers to get familiar with the product line-ups and to hold talks.

The visit holds an important place in the Belarusian-Indonesian agenda, given this year's celebration of the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the countries.

In January-June of this year, trade between Belarus and Indonesia totaled $115.7 million, up by 35.8% as against the same period of 2017. The regional entities of the Belarusian Potash Company, Belshina, BelAZ, and MTZ in Singapore and Malaysia promote Belarusian exports to Indonesia.

Belarus' major exports to Indonesia are potash fertilizers, trucks, tires, polyamides. Rubber is the main export item of Indonesia to Belarus.
