Belarus in favor of direct dialogue between EU, EAEU

MINSK, 22 June (BelTA) – Belarus advocates a direct dialogue between the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) with a possibility to establish a stable and prosperous common economic space between the Pacific and the Atlantic, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told a press conference following the informal ministerial meeting of the Eastern Partnership member states on 22 June, BelTA has learned.

The minister noted that the meeting covered a broad range of issues, including the need for a kind of “advertising campaign” within the framework of the Eastern Partnership to help the EU member states and the partner countries to learn more about each other, about benefits and achievements of mutual cooperation. This would be very instrumental for strengthening mutual understanding in the region.

Vladimir Makei believes that the Eastern Partnership should evolve in a non-confrontational way in the spirit of the Brussels summit. “It should not be directed against the interests of third countries. Belarus would like to take advantage of the constructive potential of the Eastern Partnership to overcome the dividing lines and restore trust,” the minister noted.
