Belarus' FM: War on terror needs uniform approach without double standards

MINSK, 1 October (BelTA) – The fight against terrorism threat requires a uniform approach where all countries respect international law and avoid double standards, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said as he took part in the general debate of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly in New York on 1 October, BelTA has learned.

The minister recalled that at the UN Summit in 2015 the Belarusian president said that sustainable development is impossible without lasting peace and security. “This idea remains relevant. Real sustainability cannot be achieved outside security that is put to the test every day. Global terrorism is a common threat. Anti-terrorism effort requires a uniform approach where all countries observe international law and avoid double standards. We welcome and willingly support the efforts of the UN decision-makers to build a single front to combat terrorism,” the diplomat noted.

In his words, Belarus' contribution to global unifying processes will be the high-level international conference on countering terrorism in the digital age that will take place in Minsk with assistance of the OSCE on 9-10 October.
