Belarus-EU Partnership Priorities expected to be signed soon

MINSK, 30 January (BelTA) – Belarus and EU has a full understanding of how to proceed to have the so-called Partnership Priorities 2020 signed in the near future, Belarus' Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told the media following a meeting with European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Johannes Hahn, BelTA has learned.

“We discussed the process of negotiations on the so-called Partnership Priorities with the EU which will become a roadmap of our relationship by 2020 in four areas: effective governance and economic development, transportation, energy efficiency and fight with climate change, people-to-people contacts. We thoroughly discussed all these four areas. I am sure that we have a full understanding of how to proceed to successfully complete the process and sign the priorities," Vladimir Makei said.

He drew attention to the fact that sectoral cooperation between Belarus and the EU has become more intense and varied. “We coordinated the events for the joint implementation as part of the partnership on mobility. We are working on the joint plans of action in customs, which is important,” Vladimir Makei said. The Belarusian side decided to deploy a customs representative to its representation in Brussels. “This suggests that we are going to closely coordinate our actions in this area,” the minister added.

Sectoral dialogues are maintained in trade, environmental protection. During the Eastern Partnership summit in Brussels in 2017 Belarus signed an agreement on the expansion of the EU trans-European transport network. “Thus, the country has strengthened its position as a bridge between Europe and Asia,” Vladimir Makei stressed.
