Belarus, Estonia in public diplomacy for more than 10 years

MOSCOW, 7 December (BelTA) – Belarus and Estonia have been developing public diplomacy for more than 10 years, Valeri Korb, head of the Estonian parliamentary friendship group with the Belarusian parliament, told media on 7 December, BelTA has learned.

According to Valeri Korb, first of all it pertains to regional cooperation. For instance, 11 years ago an agreement on cooperation was signed between Soligorsk and Kohtla-Jarve. “We get on really well. We have a great potential for development in culture, education, and economic sector,” he said.

The MP believes that it is high time Belarus and Estonia moved from regional to a higher, interstate, level of cooperation. The Estonian MP and his Belarusian counterpart, MP of the House of Representatives, Nikolai Ivanchenko see the prospects for further cooperation in the areas such as solid domestic waste recycling, agriculture and others. According to Nikolai Ivanchenko, today it is essential to develop an instrument to systemize all the developments and bring them to life.

Belarus and Estonia have already implemented big investment projects. In particular, Silvano Investment Group has purchased a part of shares in ZAO Milavitsa. Other projects included the creation of a big company named Vitebsk Lesopilka in Vitebsk Oblast and a factory to produce cardboard packaging in Minsk Oblast. Estonia's investment in Belarus made up $94 million in 2014 and $36.3 million in H1 2015.
