Belarus elected UNECE vice chairperson

MINSK, 28 April (BelTA) – Belarus has been elected vice chairperson of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.

The 67th session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe ended in the UN office in Geneva on 27 April. The session was dedicated to discussing UNECE at 70: Economic Integration and Cooperation Towards 2030. Elections were held as part of the session. Belarus was unanimously elected vice chairperson of the commission and became part of the UNECE Executive Committee.

Latvia was elected chairperson of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe while Switzerland was elected vice chairperson.

Participants of the two-day UNECE session adopted a statement, which reads that the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe has been and remains an effective venue that allows countries to get together to tackle the problems they face through coordinated action. The statement emphasizes that the venue can contribute to tighter economic integration and cooperation with a view to preserving and bolstering economic relations between European countries and between European countries and other countries of the world. The venue can also help implement the 2030 Agenda.
