Belarus counts on EU's support with new global dialogue initiative

MINSK, 17 November (BelTA) – Belarus hopes that the EU will support the initiative to launch a new global dialogue by analogy with the Helsinki process, Belarus' Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said at Minsk Forum 2017 on 17 November, BelTA has learned.

“I am convinced that for peace, security and prosperity in our region we need to launch an open inclusive dialogue along the lines of the Helsinki process. We expect that Germany and the EU will support the initiative of the Belarusian head of state to launch such a dialogue which he announced at the OSCE PA session in Minsk,” the minister noted.

“Perhaps, many will say that given the current level of tensions and mistrust in the region a new Helsinki process is clearly not the matter on today's agenda. But I think the future will show. Diplomacy is sometimes the art of not only the possible but also the impossible. And we need to fulfill this seemingly impossible task together for the sake of our common future,” Vladimir Makei noted.
