MINSK, 13 January (BelTA) – Belarus and China are busy stepping up student exchange programs. Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei made the statement in an exclusive interview with BelTA in anticipation of the 25th anniversary of Belarusian-Chinese relations.
According to Vladimir Makei, there are more than 2,000 Chinese university students in Belarus and about 700 Belarusian students in China. The fact that three Confucius institutes have been opened in Belarus indicates the strong interest in China. One was opened in the Belarusian State University in December 2006, another in the Minsk State Linguistic University in September 2011, and another one in the Belarusian National Technical University in October 2014.
The Confucius institute in the Belarusian National Technical University is one of a kind. It specializes in teaching students to speak Chinese with a focus on science and technology. Apart from that, there are several Confucius classrooms in Belarusian secondary schools.
