Belarus-China cooperation in space exploration praised

MINSK, 20 January (BelTA) – Belarus and China have successfully begun a joint space exploration project. Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration Nikolai Snopkov made the statement during the event held on 19 January to celebrate the 25th anniversary since Belarus-China diplomatic relations were established, BelTA has learned.

The official said that Belarus-China scientific cooperation had advanced far. “Today we have more than one hundred agreements between Belarusian and Chinese universities. Joint labs and research institutions in China and Belarus are available and new ones are being established. A Belarusian-Chinese analysis center for development has been established at premises of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. A Belarusian-Chinese center for commercializing innovations has started working,” said Nikolai Snopkov.

“Our technological cooperation reached new heights when the first Belarusian communication satellite Belintersat-1 was inserted into orbit using a Chinese space launch facility. The event began the project in the area of joint space exploration,” stressed the Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration.

The official remarked that the number of bilateral projects in the area of humanitarian affairs is rapidly rising. A Chinese culture center was opened in Minsk in December 2016. A Belarusian culture center will be opened in Beijing in May 2017. Student exchange is on the rise. Three Confucius institutes and several Confucius classrooms have been opened in Belarus.

“We constantly feel support of our Chinese friends in the form of gratuitous technical aid. The aid is used to implement social projects such as the construction of residential houses, medical institutions, halls of residence. The aid is used to equip hospitals and infrastructure installations and arrange on-the-job training for Belarusian specialists,” stated Nikolai Snopkov.

The official stressed that Belarusian-Chinese interregional cooperation had been invigorated. “The dynamics of contacts is clearly visible if we consider the fact that over 30 visits of delegations occurred in the last few years within the framework of interregional cooperation,” said Nikolai Snopkov.

The Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration concluded: “Over the course of 25 years — a comparatively short period on the historical scale — we have proved that our genuinely trustful and long-term bilateral relations meet interests of Belarus and China and can serve as an example of how such relations should be built with other states.”
