Belarus' CEC to study OSCE/ODIHR recommendations, submit report to President

MINSK, 15 December (BelTA) – The interagency working group under the Belarusian Central Election Commission (CEC) and the Central Election Commission are expected to study the OSCE/ODIHR recommendations and submit the corresponding report to Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, CEC Chairwoman Lidia Yermoshina said in an interview with the SB. Belarus Today newspaper.

Representatives of the Belarusian Central Election Commission are set to meet with Special Coordinator of the OSCE short-term observer mission at the parliamentary elections, Vice President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Kent Harstedt in Minsk on 20 December. “Prior to the meeting the Belarusian CEC will resume the work of its interagency working group which operated ahead of the elections to the Belarusian parliament. Together with the CEC, the group of experts will study the ODIHR recommendations that will be read out at a meeting in Minsk and work out a document (a report to the President) on their implementation. The head of state will decide which of these proposals will be legislated,” said Lidia Yermoshina.

The Central Election Commission will draft the corresponding laws and submit them to the parliament. “I think our experts will voice their position regarding possible changes in the Belarusian legislation during their meeting with Kent Harstedt,” the CEC head added.
