Belarus CEC head among early voters

MINSK, 15 February (BelTA) – Chairperson of Belarus' Central Election Commission Lidia Yermoshina cast her early voting ballot in the elections of to the Minsk City Council of Deputies of the 28th convocation, BelTA has learned.

Speaking of the candidate she voted for, Lidia Yermoshina noted that she carefully considered each. “I gave my vote for someone who put a flyer in my mailbox. And that was the only flyer I got. It is certainly not an obligatory condition, but it says that the candidate was working on his campaign,” Lidia Yermoshina said. She admitted it was difficult to choose among the candidates as all seemed good.

Lidia Yermoshina attributed the relatively high turnout in the early voting to the encouragement campaign in budget-sponsored organizations, enterprises, and educational institutions. “I am talking about calls and recommendations to go to the polls early and have a good rest on the weekend. The main thing is that there should be no coercing,” Lidia Yermoshina said.

She encouraged young voters to come to the polls. “Youth in Belarus, like in other European countries, is quite indifferent to the elections. I would advise them to come to the polls and vote for the candidate they like most,” the CEC head said.

The local elections in Belarus are scheduled for 18 February 2018. Early voting is held from 13 to 17 February. A total of 5,620 polling stations opened on the first day of the early voting.
