Belarus calls for UNIDO cooperation strategy with middle-income countries

VIENNA, 28 November (BelTA) – Belarus suggests developing a strategy of cooperation with middle-income countries to the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Belarus' Ambassador to Austria, Belarus' Permanent Representative to the international organizations in Vienna Alena Kupchyna told BelTA.

“Belarus is concerned about the lack of a strategy of cooperation with middle-income states at the UNIDO. The organization has similar programs for the BRICS countries [Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa] and also for the least developed countries. We believe such an approach does not meet the aggregate potential of the middle-income countries and their contribution to the world economy,” Alena Kupchyna noted.

Belarus has submitted to the UNIDO General Conference its draft resolution on sustainable industrial development in middle-income countries. “We believe that the adoption of the resolution will help the UNIDO Secretariat to work more actively, building an expert dialogue to share the advanced experience of industrialization and innovative and technological development of middle-income countries with developing states,” the ambassador said.
