Belarus calls for making Eastern Partnership initiative more project-oriented

MINSK, 1 March (BelTA) – The Eastern Partnership (EaP) initiative should become more project-oriented, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told reporters on 1 March, BelTA has learned.

“We are working closely with all our EaP partners, and we have a common and comprehensive understanding of how to make this initiative more effective. We believe that it should be more project-oriented. It should aim for less idle talk and more specific, real projects that would bring tangible benefit to our countries and peoples,” the minister said.

Vladimir Makei noted that work is underway to develop suggestions on how to improve the work of the Eastern Partnership initiative.

The minister said that Brussels will host the next EaP summit in November. Foreign ministers of the EU member states and the EaP counties will meet in June. “During the meetings, we will also discuss ways to streamline the work of the initiative,” Vladimir Makei noted.

He added that the Belarusian side has already put forward a number of suggestions regarding interregional projects that would be of interest not only to Belarus, but also to other countries.
