Ambrazevich elected vice president of conference of high contracting parties to CCW Protocol V

MINSK, 20 November (BelTA) - The Permanent Representative of Belarus to the United Nations Office in Geneva Yuri Ambrazevich was elected Vice President of the 12th Conference of the High Contracting Parties to Protocol V to the Convention on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Certain Conventional Weapons Which May Be Deemed to Be Excessively Injurious or to Have Indiscriminate Effects (CCW) by the Eastern European Group of States, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The election of a Belarusian representative once again confirms the authority of Belarus as an active and consistent supporter of building a more secure world,” the press service said.

The 12th Conference of the States Parties to Protocol V to the CCW will be held in Geneva (Switzerland) in the fourth quarter of 2018.

Adopted on 28 November 2003, Protocol V to the CCW deals with post-conflict clearance of “explosive remnants of war” - unexploded and abandoned explosives. The Protocol stipulates obligations of States Parties to demine, remove and destroy “explosive remnants of war”. The Protocol also requires to take measures to protect civilians from the impact of unexploded and abandoned explosives. 93 states are Parties to Protocol V.
