Aide to Russian president satisfied with Minsk meeting with U.S. envoy on Ukraine

MINSK, 21 August (BelTA-TASS) – Aide to the President of Russia Vladislav Surkov is satisfied with the 21 August meeting with Kurt Volker, a special representative of the U.S. Department of State for Ukraine, BelTA has learned.

Vladislav Surkov said: “We have agreed that the current situation in Ukraine's southeast can satisfy neither the conflicting sides nor the external forces that try to foster the resolution of the conflict. The discussion proceeded with mutual respect and interest. Honestly speaking, it proceeded without illusions and prejudice. Adherence to the Minsk agreements was not doubted: both sides came up with fresh ideas and innovative approaches to implementing them.”

The aide to the Russian president continued: “We have agreed to continue working together. Topics for the next meeting were determined. We have agreed that the peace process can and should advance faster from the political point of view and the security point of view.”

“It was a good meeting,” he summed up.
