2019 described as productive year for CIS

MINSK, 3 December (BelTA) - 2019 has been a productive year for the CIS, Sergei Lebedev, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary, told the media, BelTA has learned.

“I would like to say that this year is ending, in our opinion, on a good note. Despite the absence of Ukraine as an active member of the CIS, the CIS bodies have worked quite productively. All the meetings of the CIS highest bodies were held on schedule, Sergei Lebedev said.

The main document adopted this year at the level of heads of state was the CIS declaration on strategic economic cooperation. “This is a very important document. It defines the direction our countries will be moving to strengthen economic cooperation, which is one of the priorities, the core of our cooperation,” he stressed.

Sergei Lebedev expressed satisfaction with Turkmenistan's presidency in the CIS this year. “It was effective, events-packed, and was held at a good organizational level. We have already received the concept of the Uzbekistan CIS Presidency in 2020 and the plan of measures which was prepared with the participation of the CIS Executive Committee. It provides for a lot of important forums, conferences, seminars, festivals, and high-level meetings. All of this gives us hope that next year, which will be held under the chairmanship of Uzbekistan for the first time ever, will be as good for the CIS,” Sergei Lebedev noted.
