On 23 September 1991 Vitebsk City Hall adopted a resolution on perpetuating the memory of outstanding artist Marc Chagall. This was the starting point for the creation of the Marc Chagall Museum in Vitebsk.
Over 25 years of operation the museum that comprises the Marc Chagall Art Center and the artist's house-museum has been visited by more than 500,000 visitors.
